subkicks

West Midlands based four-piece, formed from the ashes of indie label darlings EXIST. (Exist having been signed to EMI in 2005 and ISLAND in 2006, releasing a single for both, to much acclaim)
School friends Matt Bellamy and James Allen formed the original band in school with local friend Chris Robinson and original bass player Simon Riley. After a number of Uk tours and supports with the likes of Boy Kill Boy, Maximo Park and the Shins to promote the singles, they began to work towards getting an album ready to record. Simon departed, James moved onto bass and another scene friend Andy Brookes completed the now renamed and re-invigorated subkicks…………..

During a farcical and turbulent management period in late 2006, the band saw a compilation of lo-fi Exist demos hawked around the globe. Somehow, Japan caught the bug. A single, “The Fear”, became a top 5 radio hit and the fore mentioned lofi recordings have now sold over 10,000 copies in the territory as an album. A sell-out Tokyo show followed in October 2007, 2008 Japanese dates are currently under construction.

Working with new management consultants the band recorded their debut album proper, “Threes, Fives and Sevens” over Christmas 2007, due for release later this year in Japan and across the world. Producer, Gavin Monaghan (The Twang/Kooks/Enemy/Editors) passionately guided the band through 12 new anthemic indie-rock tracks.
“Threes, Fives and Sevens” overflows with all the ingredients you want from a young talented and determined band, classic guitar riffs, stadium sized choruses with a few dance beats thrown in for good measure!

subkicks play regularly at all the various Midland venues, 'Jug of Ale' RIP, Birmingham Academy and Wolves Little Civic are favorites with the band and fans and guarantee a packed show.
May and June 2008 will once again see subkicks spread their wings and play a select number of shows across the UK, aiming to reconnect with old fans and bolster the new ones arriving via the Internet on a daily basis.
A stunning video has been shot for the lead track from the new album, “The Fatman” will spearhead the band’s campaign to prove themselves as one of the UK’s best kept secrets become a secret no more…………
